"The Lord's Work"
If there really is such a thing, then I think that Radley Balko has done it. For six years, he's been dogging the matter of Cory Maye's conviction and death sentence for murder after shooting a cop in a wrong drug raid. (is there any other kind? -- ed.) Nobody else I know of has invested so much effort at illuminating the horror of this, and it looks like it's coming to a pay-off.
Mr. Maye has accepted a plea-deal to a manslaughter charge, and has been sentenced essentially to time served. He could be out of prison in a very short time.
Balko has published a letter from Maye, and you should go read it for an example of a gracious soul and perseverance.
Good for you, Radley, and good for Cory Maye. This is about as good as it could get.
