The Action Around The Pot
What distinguishes The Cannibal-Pot of the United States from the all-pay auction is the element of force: it is because individual human beings and the fruit of their efforts are more and more disposed to common consumption, not voluntarily but by compulsive order of the state, that their very survival requires them to commit everything as pressure-groups for whatever spoonfuls can be begged or stolen from other mobs gathered around the cook-fires.
This is a crucial intersection of ethics (the value of collectives over individuals) and politics (social organization, unilaterally coercive in this case).
