Wendy's Line On Eldorado
"At this point, I should reiterate...I don't like these people -- that is, I don't like the polygamist men and women of the FLDS. I wouldn't have a conversation with them, I wouldn't have them in my home, I detest what they stand for. But that doesn't mean the State of Texas has the right to wipe its ass with their civil liberties. The precedents being set here (or attempted to be set) are truly horrendous...as horrible as anything I've seen, including Waco."Wendy McElroy's disclaimer, with which I completely agree. That's one of three posts that she's put up on this thing since Friday, and I like 'em all.
The only graceful thing about this is that hundreds of people didn't get blown up or burned down along the way. "At least it wasn't another Waco" is a sick little commendation on its own, and it doesn't address the grinding misery of shattered families, no matter what you or I might think of them.
Curse this thing.
