It Can't Happen Here...
"The bill's chief sponsor, Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan, said he had no doubt the FTC would be able to determine price gouging once the agency had a law to uphold."(Associated Press)
"Wherever the law is, crime can be found."(Solzhenitsyn, "Gulag", Vol. I, p. 67)
The unifying principle here, kids, is arbitrary power: a federal agency to be authorized to unilaterally arbitrate local gasoline markets with threats of prison and ruinous fines.
But we're only talking about a ... well, one couldn't call them a 'minority', could one? They're just a small number of the crowd round the national cannibal pot -- the ones who own and operate gas pumps, et. al., etc. -- and they probably all wouldn't be ruined, except for the ones for the administrative body-count files (media shoots, etc.), and besides; I can't really see it happening under this administration.
>phew< That'll keep for another two, t'ree years.
