Warren Meyer links through Jules Crittenden to the Boston Herald story about Virtual Tourist naming Boston City Hall as The World's Ugliest Building.
The Brutalist School should be met on its own premises, of course. It would be hard, but necessary, I suppose, to argue against reinforced concrete sleepies for the lot of them. I find the VT list thin, however. Postmodernism is poorly represented, and there is not one Frank Gehry in any of it. No take on ugly buildings can be taken seriously without him at the top of the list.
That thing in Boston is pretty rotten, though. I once spent several days throwing lights around Government Center Plaza for the "First Night" New Year's yay-o, and a good deal of it on the roof of that place. The whole thing is nearly Soviet in baleful mass, and I can't imagine doing a lifetime's work anywhere near it. Yeesh.
