"Boston Shitty Hall"

No kidding. At all. (I need to point out that when I try the permalink, it doesn't go to that particular post, but to the top of the blog page. Scroll down to the words in my subject-header when you get there.)

I once spent a couple of days around that building, rigging displays for the "First Night" New Year's Eve rah-rah. Like; walking all through it and up on the roof and everything. I got a good long look at it, and believe me:I could only wish it was a sick joke. The sickening truth is that it's part of a positive plague. I see this stuff with my own eyes all over the country, and it's just awful.

More -- "The Invisible Hand" goes on a splendid tear on Paul Rudolph. Scroll down to "Designs of Doom". (Michael Blowhard linked that one. Spike quote: "When you hear the words 'progressive workplace environment,' it's time to run for the hills.") I take issue with the nomination of Rudolph as "the worst architect in America". I'd say that I.M. Pei is a dink by comparison, but that there's a very good case to be made for Frank Gehry. Really: there is just no excuse.
